Brooke Burke has revealed that she is battling thyroid cancer and will be having surgery to remove a cancerous nodule on her thyroid gland.

The mother-of-four revealed the news in a video blog on Thursday, telling fans that she was 'ready to deal' with the disease.

Brooke, 41, put off going to her physician to have the nodule checked for eight months.

'I'm going to be a good patient and do everything I'm supposed to do,' the Dancing With The Stars host insisted in the video.

And she added that she was determined to beat the disease.

'Now I'm good and I'm ready to deal with it and I'm going to be fine,' she said. 'I feel really, really strong. Doctors say that this is a "good kind of cancer to have."

'That sounds so crazy. But my doctor did tell me that this is a happily ever after ending kind of thing.

Wrapping her arms around her legs, Brooke revealed on the video that she had a barrage of additional tests after an initial medical test failed to determine whether the nodule was cancerous or benign.

'I had to go through a whole bunch of additional tests and get second opinions. Long story. I got my results back and they were not good,' Brooke tells her fans.

'I need to have thyroid surgery, a thyroidectomy, which means that I am going to have a nice big scar, right here, across my neck.'

Brooke adds: 'I don't get to just walk around and pretend like nothing happened or not follow up or not share, because it's going to be pretty much dead center.

'I didn't want anyone to read about it and get the wrong idea or think that I'm sick, because I'm not.

'I never, ever, ever thought I was going to get that phone call with bad news.

'I guess the truth is I'm always so used to being in control and taking care of everybody... and now I find myself in this really out of control situation.'

In the video Brooke is seen sitting on a cosy white bed in a yellow-painted bedroom, wearing a grey T-shirt and comfy leggings with her wavy brown hair falling softly around her shoulders.

'Here's the way I see it: I'm going to make a positive out of this negative thing,' she tells the camera.

'I am going to be a really good patient and I am going to do everything I need to do. I booked my surgery and it's taken me a couple months to really wrap my head around this.

'I feel really good. I've never felt better. That's what's so crazy about this whole thing.'

The Connecticut native, who is married to former Baywatch hunk David Charvet, actually wrote on her blog in July that she had gone in for a biopsy after putting it off for eight months.

'And why the hell didn’t I check this eight months ago when my internist told me to?,' Brooke wrote at the time. 'Too busy, I guess, which today feels like an irresponsible, stupid and lame excuse.'

But now Brooke is going to follow doctors' orders.

Brooke certainly has a lot to live for - she and Charvet have a daughter, Rain, five, and a son, Shaya.

Brooke also has two daughters from her previous marriage to plastic surgeon Garth Fisher, Neriah, 12, and Sierra, 10.

It was only last month that sexy Brooke was spotted frolicking on the beach in Malibu for a photo shoot, clad in a two-piece beige bathing suit and grey cashmere cardigan.
